1 of only 70 pairs made. Our first ever, proper square toe, equestrian inspired riding boots. Luxe leather upper, leather lined designed to be worn forever and then some.
Being a very small range brand, it is always an exciting time at Rad HQ when we not only conceive but actually realise a whole new silhouette. When opening a new last, it takes a strong degree of clarity and focus to ensure everything lines up, and that our maker understands what we are trying to achieve because we absolutely can not afford to be wasteful. In the case of our 'Selkie' boot, weirdly and like magic, it took only 1 take. Lamboe (our maker) got it straight off the bat - how sharp we wanted the squareness of the toe, and how it still needed to remain flat and and neat through the side profile. How the shaft (that's the ankle section) needed to be slim to keep the ankle well defined. How the width of the gusset needed to be exaggerated and more pronounced than a traditional riding boot to give it our own radical appeal. And how the rise on the heel needed to be almost cuban in proportion but cut 'flatish' through the back to make for a clearly defined line of conviction in silhouette. One shot. That was it, just like Eminem said, and frankly I think we damn well got it with this one. If this is not the most perfectly executed, sharply drawn version of a riding boot, I don't know what is. The shaft rises to 16cm in height making it high enough to keep your ankles warm, but low enough to give your legs great shape with skirts (we give these kinds of things lots of thought in the development process). The gusset measures 6cm across at the topline and finishes out around 7.5cm to ensure a super easy pull on fit. But really the strength of the silhouette says it all. This is the riding boot you will wear forever.
The leather is backed for structure and so does feel stiff on the first few wears - much more so than previous shoes we have made - so they do start out feeling firm in a semi 'school shoe' way. The leather is very high quality and a thick handle but in wear will mould to your feet. Length is true to fit, however they are firm in the midsole so if you have wider feet you could consider sizing up. Feel free to call us 0437 933 073 if you need to talk through your sizing before you order.
We are always marvelling at the ability of a green palette to act like black, but be something totally unique and yet neutral. So it is with the Moss incantation of this boot. There is a delicious cloudiness to this palette making it the perfect tone for soft haze winter days. Sometimes throwing a greyish tone, sometimes popping in a more military bold fashion it's hard to put your finger on the exact place this Moss sits on the colour wheel. Which is exactly what makes it so easy to wear. Cool tones, warm tones, monochrome or print fests. We promise it is going to match. There is a Parisian sophistication that we are often mining coming to life here, but it also has a touch of LA bohemian-in-the-winter-desert vibe to. It's just one of those amazing shades you can't quite put your finger on but can be worn for days. The depth of tone is pitch-perfect and made ever more beautiful by a high polished finish to ensure a degree of weather proofing. Lined with almond leather and framed by a black elastic gusset and black rubber resin outsole. Easy pull black grosgrain tab makes these the ultimate winter run around boot.
Most days we love to go sharp with these ones. Think belted man-style pants made a little more relaxed with navy stripe sweaters as seen on dear Gemma here. In fact, Navy anything is an essential accent to these shoes. Play up the military vibes with a long line oversized navy coat, or stick with the more obvious choices, tucked under denims paired with oversized knits. Like we said before the best thing is you can forget all this structure and make the mood instant gypsy with contrasting feminine dress details and exposed woollen ankle socks for surprise hits of irony. Which is exactly why we think they are super radical, yes!
Leather Upper / Leather Lined / Rubber Resin Sole
Made responsibly in China in small batch quantities by our new boutique manufacturing partner, Mipiachi.
Yes. This is a leather upper / shearling lined product so like all leather shoes will have around 8 - 10% stretch on wearing depending on the amount of pressure applied to the upper.
This is high quality leather upper so it does need care.
Leather is a wonderful material, breathable, durable and beautiful. But without a bit of love it can dry out and deteriorate.
For optimum care, we recommend and sell "Waproo Waterproofer" to protect them from unexpected showers. We recommend spraying monthly on the Full Moon and can send you a reminder if you sign up to our newsletter here.
Polish your leather shoes around once a month and clean when necessary with a leather conditioner and soft rag to remove any dirt accumulated on your travels.
For extra special treatment, polishing can help renew shoes that have developed scratches or other signs of regular wear. Wax and cream polishes available from a local shoe repairer will breath new life into your beloved toe tappers. Once your newly polished shoes have dried you can re-apply a waterproof spray for extra protection.
