A RADICAL TREASURE HUNT // YOUR XMAS GUIDE TO MELBOURNE

Despite what the bright lights and flashing advertisements may assure you, we know that Christmas is not all jingles and bells. In fact, it can be pretty damn exhausting! So to make things a little easier, we are elated to present A Radical Treasure Hunt, your guide to our pop-ups and surrounding surprises this Xmas season!! We think this is truly radical! Yess!!

Conveniently located next to the station and many many many more shops, Melbourne Central might just be your one-stop Xmas shop. Plus, as we’re big supporters of those who use PTV, anyone who shows us their Myki will immediately recieve a 10% discount towards their next purchase!!

Learn: Wheeler Centre

Head just across the road and you’ll find the Wheeler Centre, home to free and affordable public talks, workshops and forums on, well, everything. Set into the side of the State Library, the Wheeler Centre champions Australia’s idea sharing and story-telling culture. Checkout www.wheelercentre.com for upcoming events!

Experience: La Trobe Reading Room, State Library + The Little Library

You don’t need to be an exam-fraught student to appreciate the remarkable Domed reading room smack bang in Melbourne’s CBD (a convenient hop-skip-jump from our pop-up). From each of the four gallery levels, escape the city hustle for an awe-inspiring view!

Just a couple of shops down from Radical Yes! is The Little Library. Designed to promote literacy and the love of reading, this free book exchange is open for anyone to browse, take a book and in return, leave one it its place. We certainly think this is pretty radical!

Coffee: Little Rogue

For a quality caffeine hit beyond the centre’s fluorescents, Little Rogue has you covered. Serving up Small Batch coffee beans and supporting local artists on their walls, this may just be your new regular. Like all good Melbourne Cafés, you’ll find this gem down a shabby laneway - look for the bright blue door!

chinatown

Eat: China Town

Bookended by those traditional ruby arches, Little Bourke’s China Town is jam-packed with cheap eats and authentic Chinese haunts. We recommend Shanghai Dumpling House off Tattersalls Lane for a no-frills, super tasty feed!

Learn: The School of Life

A 15-minute walk from our Therry St pop-up will bring you to the School of Life. Experience: Summer Night Market

Every Wednesday evening from November 23 until March 8, the Queen Vic comes alive with the motley scent of hundreds of international streets cuisines, live music, artisanal stalls and roving activities. Make a night of it and have a sticky in our QV pop-up, open late on market nights!

Coffee: Market Lane

Market Lane Coffee is practically an institution. In seven years, they’ve opened five stores to the cheers of their ever-expanding customer base. Serving seasonal coffee, freshly roasted in-house, market lane is an experience for the coffee expert and novice alike.

Eat: Bratwurst Shop & Co.

Always heaving, the Bratwurst Shop in the QV dairy hall is the place to go for your mid-shop bite. Our pick? We reckon the spicy bratwurst with sauerkraut, relish and seeded mustard is 100% radical!!!

Big Design Market, Melbourne Exhibition Centre

Pop-Up: From December 2nd – 4th, we are setting up shop at the Exhibition Centre in the Carlton gardens for another remarkable Big Design Market. Among hundreds of other brilliant designers, we’ll be there with a few surprises up our sleeves, ready for a supercharged weekend! YESS!!

Learn: Melbourne Museum

There’s a good chance that the last time you made it the museum, you were accompanying a group of rag-tag grade fours on excursion (or maybe you were one of the kids). Well it’s time for a revisit! Alongside permanent exhibits such as the Dinosaur Walk, Eel Feeding and classic Bugs Alive!, the museum is partnering with the CSL and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute to bring you Biomedical Breakthroughs, examining the life-changing effects Melbourne’s medical research has had across the globe!

carltongardens

Experience: Market Madness!

We cannot wait to see your glorious faces this BDM but make sure you check out all the other radical vendors on display; so many creative, zany, hard working wonder women in one room!!!! And when you’re just about ready to collapse, head into the Carlton gardens for a sunny kip!

Caffeine: Sensory Lab Coffee

This is coffee at it’s most methodical. The team at Sensory Lab is devoted to grinding and roasting and foaming. While out and market-ing keep caffeinated and give their batch brew a go!

Eat: Misschu, Gelato Messina, Beatbox Kitchen

You won’t really want to leave the Exhibition Hall for nosh when Melbourne icons like Misschu, Beatbox Kitchen and Gelato Messina will be serving plate after plate of all the good stuff. We actually wouldn’t be surprised if you bypassed the design bits altogether and spent the day getting to know the food vendors instead!
